Silken Passage
A panegyric in metal, Silken Passage is the studio’s tribute to the iconic Silk Road. For over a millennia, a network of routes used by traders for more than 1,500 years known as the Silk Road, contributed to the exchange of goods and ideas among diverse cultures. Drawing inspiration from this historic exchange, the studio has set out to interpret in its own distinct way a coming together of the past and the present by creating Silken Passage. The artistic expression that emerged from Japan, China, India, Iran, Turkey and Italy along that route finds voice in this 28 ft long and 8 ft high mural.The vast sinuous metallic tapestry of the carefully selected designs lead us from nature’s blooms to crafted vessels, of sculptural forms and topographies. The studio’s vision for the piece was painstakingly brought to life by a team of craftsmen dedicated to repousseĢ, welding, stone inlay and casting. The piece is an exemplar of the intricate, metalworking technique of repousseĢ, a signature of the studio.
